What to do in the first hour
Learn the movement you already have, then scan every dead end before you decide it is one. Those two habits prevent most early backtracking. The three systems that matter are the scanner bot, Protoplasm spent at Evolve Chambers, and Heal Lifeblood, which recharges on its own track.
- Test roll, jump, wall jump and the ball form in a safe room. You start with more movement than the game explains.
- Scan the first rooms until you recognise hidden-path outlines. The scanner also maps where you have been.
- Fight until you have Protoplasm, then spend it at the first organic chamber instead of saving it.
- Open the map after every new objective. The bottom line tells you which area the game wants next.
- Break green or cyan eye barriers with ordinary fire or one charged shot before assuming you need an upgrade.
- Bank nothing: upgrades can be refunded, so buy what helps now.
No official default keybind chart exists. The controls menu is the authority for your platform, and rebinding was added in the 21 October 2026 demo update.
Movement you already have
The store page lists roll, dodge, leap, wall jump and sprint, and the developer overview adds crouch, swimming and wall-jump climbs. A creator guide adds two moves that are easy to miss: ball form from the start, and repeated wall climbing.
- Ball form: inside a crawl space, press jump while crawling. In open ground, hold down plus a direction, then jump.
- Wall climb: jump into a wall, keep holding toward it, and tap jump again as you slide. You can repeat this to gain height.
- Ledge hang: grabs stick without a continuous press, so you can shoot from the edge.
- Dash is movement, not invincibility. Do not plan to pass through an attack.
The wall climb is the reason a high ledge is not automatically a double-jump gate. Try it on the wall under the ledge before you leave the room. If the wall is smooth or the gap is horizontal, the route is somewhere else.
How to use the scanner
The scanner bot uses X-ray vision to examine creatures and the room. The official store text promises hidden paths and secret areas that are invisible in normal view, plus a record of explored space.
- Scan at a dead end before backtracking.
- Sweep corners, ceilings and the floor where the wall texture changes.
- Watch for highlighted objects you have already examined so you do not repeat them.
- Use the scan log to keep enemy and environmental entries after closing the screen.
- Scan bosses when their health bar appears; the scan is the intended way to expose weak points.
The scanner has a range. In the Underground Depths, one player reported that a passage only resolved after walking the wall itself. If nothing shows from the room centre, move closer before concluding the room is empty. See the depths exit guide for that specific room.
Protoplasm, Evolve Chambers and respec
Enemies drop Protoplasm. Spend it inside organic chambers, which the Evolve screen labels Evolve Chambers, to buy weapon and ability upgrades. The official Evolve screenshot shows six nodes, each with three upgrade axes.
Wide table — scroll sideways on a phone.
| Node | Type | Upgrade axes |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha Blaster | Weapon | Speed / Charge / Damage |
| Gatling Blaster | Weapon | Speed / Rate / Damage |
| Spire Blaster | Weapon | Length / Speed / Damage |
| Protocannon | Weapon | Radius / Accelerate / Speed |
| Purify Lifeblood | Ability | Restore / Efficacy / Immune |
| Protopulse | Ability | Pulses / Damage / Range |
Upgrades are refundable. Select the node you bought and use the same input to buy it; the points return and can go into another weapon. That makes early experimentation cheap. Numeric costs are not printed on the screen capture, so this guide does not invent a price table.
Bioplasm is the older term used in the 1.1.0 demo notes for skill cost. The store calls the currency Protoplasm. Treat older guides that merge healing and skill costs as out of date.
Healing, death and saves
Heal Lifeblood no longer spends your upgrade currency. Since demo patch 1.1.0 it charges at Evolve Chambers, so healing is a rechargeable resource rather than a second use for Protoplasm.
- Saves are pools. Death returns you to the last one you used.
- A creator guide reports that accumulated Protoplasm is not erased by death, so a failed boss attempt does not wipe your upgrade fund.
- Healing charges at chambers, so top up before a long route rather than hoarding.
- If you are short on healing, clear enemies from a ledge or a doorway instead of entering the room.
Early combat habits
The game rewards shooting the room as much as shooting the enemy. Several achievements are built around exploding props, and armoured targets reject ordinary blaster fire.
- Lock on to keep moving while your shots track. After 1.1.0 the lock prefers the enemy nearest the crosshair, so place the reticle first.
- Shoot explosive batteries, eggs and cargo boxes near groups.
- Hard-shelled crawlers stop for roughly five seconds when shot, which is enough to cross a platforming section.
- Armoured enemies need missile-type attacks. Holding the missile input is the community description; check your control layout.
- A charged shot fired downward gives a small lift, useful for a ledge you almost reach.
Beginner mistakes that cost time
- Treating an eye barrier as a locked door. Green or cyan eyes break to ordinary or charged fire.
- Hoarding Protoplasm for a future weapon. Refunds are free, so buy now.
- Assuming every high ledge needs the double jump. Wall climbing and the charged-shot lift solve several early gaps.
- Dashing through attacks. There are no invincibility frames on the dash.
- Ignoring the map objective and exploring a whole region for a route that is one room away.
Where to go next
Once the scanner and upgrade loop make sense, the chapter route is the next useful read. If you are already stuck, skip to the specific room.
- Follow the main route in the Moadra walkthrough.
- Learn the map screen and fast travel in the map guide.
- Compare blasters before spending on a second weapon in the weapons guide.
- If a high ledge is blocking you, read double jump and high-ledge options.
Questions players ask
Where do I spend Protoplasm?
At organic chambers, labelled Evolve Chambers on the screen. They appear as upgrade rooms in the world and are separate from save pools.
Can I respec upgrades in Moadra?
Yes. Select a purchased node and use the same input you used to buy it to refund the points. Creator guides describe this as free reassignment; the developer has not published a separate respec note.
Does healing cost Protoplasm?
No. Since demo patch 1.1.0, Heal Lifeblood recharges at Evolve Chambers instead of spending Bioplasm. Older demo advice that merges the two resources is out of date.
What button opens the scanner?
There is no published default binding. Check the controls menu on your platform; rebinding was added in the 21 October 2026 demo update.
Do I lose Protoplasm when I die?
A creator guide reports that accumulated Protoplasm stays with you and death returns you to the last pool. Treat that as a community observation rather than an official rule.
